ITINERARY

Day 1

Cusco – Km 104 , and Aguas Calientes

You will be picked up with our guide from your Cusco hotel at about 05.00 a.m.and leave to Ollantaytambo in the Inca’s Sacred valley. At about 7:45 hours you leave by the Expedition train as far as Km 104.

Upon arrival, crossing the bridge over the Urubamba river and the trail control, we visit the archaeological site of Chachabamba at 2,250 meters above sea level. From this site, agricultural products from here and other areas were collected to be brought to Machu Picchu.

After a short visit to the ruins, we begin our steep walk towards the Wiñay Wayna Inca town, located on the Inca trail, in fact, the largest Inca settlement, on the whole trail before great Machu Picchu. On the way, we have beautiful views of the Urubamba river and many of the famous pink orchids given the name of Wiñay Wayna. We stop to visit this interesting and important Inca site. After 10 minutes more walking we each at the “Trekker’s lodge”, where we will eat our lunch.

We start walking again In the afternoon for the last hours towards Machu Picchu, arriving at Inti Punku (the Gate of the Sun) and getting a superb first view of Machu picchu. We shall enjoy the wonderful view, take as many photos as we want to, and start walking down to the ruins gate but walk down to the exit ta board the bus to Aguas Calientes.Dinner in a restaurant. We spend the night at our hotel in town.

Day 2

Aguas Calientes – Machu Picchu – Cusco

After an early buffet breakfast, as early as possible we leave the hotel to walk with our guide to the bus station for 30 minutes drive to the ruins gate. to reach Machu Picchu with our entrance tickets. Machu Picchu with its fantastic mountains background on its saddle high over the Urubamba River. Upon arrival, we start the guided tour of about 2 hours taking us to the important areas of our asigned trail in Machu Picchu.

We will learn about the importance (religiously and historically) of the place, and be able to appreciate the fine architecture of the Incas.

After the guided tour you could go to the top of steep Huayna Picchu mountain if you paid in advance for its entrance, Trom there you could have a good overview of the whole surrounding area and the full site of Machu Picchu. Otherwise, after the visit, exiting the ruins we drive with the bus to Aguas Calientes to take the train back to Cusco at about 18:20 hrs, via Ollantaytambo or Poroy. Transfer to your hotel..

Important

If desired you may optionally add and overnight in Aguas Calientes (Machu Picchu town) as it allows a second visit to Machu Picchu citadel and include Huayna Picchu or Machu Picchu (subject to space availability and must be requested in advance)

We have booked a three-week round trip with a car as a self-driver. All the hotels were excellently chosen the journey very well thought out. We received an exact map (using an app) and were able to navigate very well. Even before a road blockade (strike) we were informed and were able to avoid a traffic jam. The selected guides were exceptionally qualified and quickly responded to all special requests.
