MUSEO SANTUARIOS ANDINOS

The Museum of the Andean Sanctuaries of Arequipa near the main square of the city exposes the material found almost at the top of the AMPATO volcano, in the INCAS sacrificial rituals of the “CAPAC COCHA”. The exhibited artifacts are approximately 550 years old and correspond to the Inca culture, which correspond to the main collection of the Juanita mummy (discovered in 1995, it is not really a mummy but the frozen corpse of a sacrificed Inca girl) and the mummies Urpicha, found in the Pichu Pichu volcano, and Sarita in the Sara Sara volcano, among the more than 20 mummies found in other snow-capped mountains.

EL MOLINO DE SABANDIA

Built in 1621, this old SABANDIA mill, in the Arequipa country  site was rescued from its ruins and stands today as an authentic Mestiza Arequipeña Rural Architecture Monument.
Its architecture stands out for a combination of raised floors, to take advantage of the driving force of water and enable grinding through two water channels that move an 18th century hydraulic mill, which was originally used to make wheat flour, corn and other cereals.
The architectural complex was built in a place of particular natural charm, and is a building with a rectangular plan, walls, high buttresses and vaults, located on the banks of a stream. The predominant material is ashlar. As an additional attraction it is possible to do horseback riding, to be paid directly by those interested.
